Changing the Shape of Custom Seating

Like you, Permobil works to continually improve the independence and quality of life for people with mobility challenges. As you work with clients who have complex seating and positioning needs, we know there are several keys to success.

At Permobil, our approach to custom seating is unique. We think that custom seating is more than just the transaction of purchasing a cushion. Our belief is that there are 3 major components to long-term success for custom seating.

  • Image Capturing & Patient Assessment Equipment

We use best in class 3D image capturing technology.  The Sense 3D scanner is light, highly portable and small enough to fit in your laptop bag so you can scan data wherever you are and bring it back to the office to complete and enhance your designs. This means you can quickly and accurately capture client shapes that reflect the ideal postures created during the molding process with the clinician. Those files can be easily emailed to our fabrication team, along with the appropriate order form, to get a quote or begin fabrication of your custom contoured seating system. Our lightweight and easily adjustable Tru-Shape simulator, combined with our extremely pliable vacuum bags, are ideal for achieving optimal posture of the client you’re molding to ensure best outcomes.

  • Fabrication (Product & Service)

We offer several different types of custom seating to meet the needs of even the most complex client shape. Whether its custom configured or custom contoured like our Tru-Shape seating, you can rest assured that the finished product will match the exact client measurements you provided. Our experienced technicians and state-of-the-art fabrication facilities deliver the highest quality product to meet your clients personal, functional and clinical needs. And Permobil works hard to improve ease of business for you by having accessible customer service no matter what time zone you’re in, quick fabrication turnaround times to reduce evaluation to delivery times, generous warranty and remake policy, 24-hour turnaround on quotes, and easy emailing of order forms and scanning images.

  • Education

Permobil believes very strongly that education is a key to successful outcomes, and clients that need custom seating very often have complex clinical needs. That’s why we have a team of 15 dedicated professionals with extensive practical experience, committed to partnering with you in achieving successful outcomes. We also know that technology is changing rapidly and it’s important to stay up to date with current technology to achieve better outcomes for the client and improve productivity. Therefore, we offer 3 different education courses related to custom seating.

    Shape Matters – Clinical Course
    Shape Pro – Technical Course
Clinic Days – On-Site Client Assessment and Molding

It’s CRT Awareness Week! What does that mean and why should I care?

“Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) includes individually configured wheelchairs, seating systems, and other adaptive equipment prescribed to meet the specific needs of people with disabilities such as ALS, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injury. This specialized equipment addresses their medical needs, reduces their health care costs, and maximizes their function and independence”. (taken from access2crt.org)
CRT Awareness Week is meant to let people know how important CRT is, and to inform the public of current legislation related to CRT. It happens every August when members of Congress are in their home offices and the goal is to mobilize people to reach out to their Congressmen and ask for their support on Bills that protect access to CRT.

Making a Stand

As we’ve been discussing the benefits of front wheel drive recently, we had an unsolicited story come our way. Joseph Maimone lives in NC and is a published author, radio contributor, and has a following on YouTube. He sustained a spinal cord injury from a skiing accident in 2004 and has been in a wheelchair ever since. This is his story of how standing has improved his health and lifestyle. Thanks to Todd Dewey, ATP with Numotion for connecting us with our friend Joseph to share his story.

Benefits of Front Wheel Drive Part 2

Part 2 in our two-part series exploring the potential benefits and uses of front wheel drive power wheelchairs. Check out Part 1.

Last week we looked a few reasons a front wheel drive (FWD) power wheelchair might be right for you. We discussed how FWD wheel base configuration can increase how close you can get to surfaces for function and drive maneuverability to ease navigation of tight corners. This week we continue our conversation by taking a look at the following reasons FWD might be the right mobility base for you:
