ROHO Scientific Advisory Board Chair Presents for the First Time in Australia
Belleville, Illinois – 11/28/2016 – Dr. Amit Gefen, Chair of the Scientific Board at Permobil, was the invited speaker at two sold-out conferences in Australia. More than 1,200 attended the two meetings. To see a video from the event, go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPMcnK5Kf-0
Permobil – Australia hosted a focused clinical conference, held in Sydney. More than 70 participants: nurses, PTs, OTs and engineers attended. The content of Dr. Gefen’s presentations at this symposium included: the etiology of pressure injuries and DTIs; the role of computer modeling in understanding what makes a good wheelchair cushion, and the efficacy of ROHO® air-cell-based technology in achieving superior immersion/envelopment, adjustability and adaptability. In addition, other professionals – Mr. Malcolm Turnbull, Permobil Australia, and Amy Darval, a local clinician – complemented Dr. Gefen’s presentation with practical examples from their own experience.
The National Australian Wound Management Association Conference, held in Melbourne, followed the Permobil event. Wound prevention and care in a broad perspective was the focus. Dr. Gefen contributed a pre-conference workshop that detailed the causes of pressure injuries and how quickly they occur. He gave two plenary presentations, “Pressure Injuries” and “Controversies in Wound Care and the Future” in the subsequent days.
“This was my first time to visit and present in Australia. The audiences at both symposia were enthusiastic and open to gaining new knowledge on current research we are doing in conjunction with Tel Aviv University and asked many thoughtful questions. I would be honored to return to Australia in the future,” said Dr. Gefen.
Dr. Gefen, as well as other Permobil Scientific Advisory Board members, continue to speak, educate and inform wheelchair users, medical equipment providers and clinicians about DTIs based on up-to-the-minute research and publications. This aligns with Permobil’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the prevention of pressure injuries worldwide.
