The ROHO DRY FLOATATION Mattress Overlay System creates the ideal environment of protection and healing with the ORIGINAL non-powered, air-filled, adjustable, zoned, reactive mattress overlay.

Don’t let its simplicity fool you.  The performance, efficiency and quality of this overlay system are unequaled in the industry. Comprised of soft, interconnected air cells, the DRY FLOATATION mattress overlay conforms precisely to the body’s contours, helping soft tissue to maintain its shape in order to maximize the healing process as well as prevention.

Foam insert pad(s) are also available in both standard and custom configurations. They may be snapped to the ROHO DRY FLOATATION Mattress Section(s) to provide individuals with a localized approach to wound management when cost restraints are required.

In the United States, the ROHO DRY FLOATATION Mattress Overlay is distributed through Moxi Enterprises, LLC.

  • With 720 air cells, this mattress overlay allows for greater conformity and better pressure distribution. Each cell is specially treated to minimize friction and resulting shear.
  • The four sections of the mattress overlay are independently adjusted, providing a low-pressure environment over the entire contact area of the body.
  • The DRY FLOATATION system provides prevention and therapeutic coverage for all pressure injuries including deep tissue injuries. The ability to “float” in the mattress overlay promotes healing and reduces soft tissue deformation.
  • Using laser Doppler velocimetry in a year long study*, it was proven that blood flow increased at least four times the base line value when a individual was immersed in the DRY FLOATATION mattress overlay. (* Jacobs, Mary Ann, MSN RN. “Compression of Capillary Blood Flow Using a Regular Hospital Bed Mattress, ROHO Mattress, and Mediscus.” Rehabilitation Nursing 14.5 (September/October 1989).)
  • Drainage holes in the base of the mattress overlay allows for moisture to drain away from the body.
  • This overlay can be used in any clinical setting. It also is ideal for home, allowing earlier discharge for some individuals.
  • Adjustable. 3.5″ (8 cm) high air cells can be adjusted to the individual’s body shape and size and to their position over time.
  • Non-powered. Requires no external power source.
  • Easy to clean. May be cleaned and disinfected. See operations manual for instructions.
  • Repairable. Extends overall life of the mattress overlay.
  • Cover options. Reusable and full enclosure covers are available.

Understanding How Children Gain Independent Mobility

Part2 in our blogseries focusing on Pediatric Mobility Solutions and the TiLite Pilot. See Part 1 here.

Last week we took a look at the several limitations in the overall design of traditional pediatric self-propelled manual mobility. From overall weight of the setup to how a short wheel base impacts stability and propulsion, these limitations can be devastating for our young clients. In order to solve these limitations, it’s important to understand how children gain independent mobility along with some of the physiology behindthe importance of improving pediatric manual mobility design.

Limitations in Pediatric Manual Wheelchair Options

Part1 in our blogseries focusing on Pediatric Mobility Solutions and the TiLite Pilot.

It has been well established that the importance of self-initiated mobility is essential to a child’s development. The ability to determine when and where you would like to move impacts multiple body systems. This self-directed mobility can positively influence a child’s ability to locate and track objects in their environment, understand movement planning, improve communication, and enhance emotional and cognitive development. With the TILite Pilot, we are creating an opportunity to support these developmental milestones through self-initiated manual wheeled mobility.

Ergonomic Seating and Manual Wheelchairs

Everyone has experienced an ergonomic seat design at some time or another. If you look at the seats in our cars, offices or even in waiting rooms ergonomic design is used because those making the chairs understand that the more the chair contours and fits a person, the less work the person must do to maintain good posture. Ergonomic seating has been underutilized in manual wheelchair design because we have customarily been dependent on cushions and backrests for postural support and positioning. We’ve also used linear seat slope as a method of providing pelvic stability, but this comes with important considerations. So, what is the difference between using traditional linear seat slope and ergonomic seating? We will take a closer look at the differences and show you why ergonomic seating is an amazing advancement in seating design for a person using a manual wheelchair.
