The ROHO Hybrid Elite Dual Compartment Cushion combines skin/soft tissue protection and Shape Fitting Technology with stability from a contoured foam base.

This innovative cushion combines the skin and soft tissue protection and Shape Fitting Technology® of a ROHO DRY FLOATATION® cushion with stability from a contoured foam base. The shape-fitting air insert provides critical pressure redistribution around the pelvis area for those with an obliquity. And the two, independent compartments let you set inflation levels to your exact shape and ideal position.

  • Positioning

An individual can achieve greater positioning ability with the Hybrid Elite Dual Compartment cushion. The contoured foam base provides the opportunity for both lower extremity and pelvic alignment and control.

  • Skin/Soft Tissue Protection

The Hybrid Elite Dual Compartment cushion hydrostatically loads the ischial tuberosities and the posterior shelf of the greater trochanters for those who are at risk of skin/soft tissue breakdown. Unparalleled in performance, the ROHO cushion insert allows for immersion and envelopment of the individual’s shape. It provides an adjustable, reduced friction and shear environment that can help protect the individual from acquiring pressure injuries from sitting. The dual valve option on the ROHO insert allows for additional customization to match an individual’s specific shape and asymmetry. Allows for up to approximately 2¾ in / 7 cm of immersion.

  • Stability

The Hybrid Elite Dual Compartment’s customized contoured foam base provides improved positioning of the pelvis and lower extremities, enhancing sitting posture. This added stability assists the individual in achieving a safer transfer in and out of their wheelchair.

Based on clinical, scientific or engineering evidence, this product may be suitable for individuals who:
  • have a history of skin/soft tissue breakdown and/or any stage pressure injury (including deep tissue injury), skin grafts, and/or myocutaneous flap surgery
  • currently have skin/soft tissue breakdown and/or any stage pressure injury (including deep tissue injury)
  • are at risk for skin/soft tissue breakdown and/or deep tissue injury
  • have normal or impaired sensation
  • require accommodation of pelvic asymmetry, up to approximately 2 in. / 5 cm
  • require increased stability
  • require lower extremity alignment
  • require correction of pelvic asymmetry (medial lateral) , up to approximately 2 in. / 5 cm

Common Concerns About Early Power Mobility Devices

Perhaps one of the mostly widely known authors on this topic are Wiart and Darrah from an article published in 2002 entitled “Changing philosophical perspectives on the management of children with physical disabilities: Their effect on the use of powered mobility.” The authors highlight the paradigm shift that occurred around that time frame and that several factors contributed to the new philosophy.

Understanding Cushion Properties with the Help of ANSI/RESNA & ISO Standards Conclusion

This is the final blog in our series on understanding cushion properties with the help of ANSI/RESNA and ISO standards. See blog 1, blog 2, blog 3,blog 4, blog 5, blog 6, blog 7, blog 8, blog 9, and blog 10.

We greatly appreciate the interest that has been shown in this series, “Understanding Cushion Properties with the Help of ANSI/RESNA and ISO standards”. Please continue to reach out with questions and comments.
We began by reviewing the structure of the ISO standards technical groups, working groups, and national committees, and explored the benefits and limitations of standards, as well as how these methods relate to clinical practice . We then dove into five specific ISO standards:

Functional Elements of the Explorer Mini's Saddle Seat

Part 11 in our series about developmental milestones in early childhood focusing on mobility. Seepart 1,part 2,part 3,part 4, part 5,part 6,part 7, part 8,part 9, part 10,and part 12.

The saddle seat was designed intentionally to facilitate an upright posture through developmentally appropriate supports. Research regarding the use of either flat seats or saddle-like seating has been conducted over the years. The work of DT Reid (1996) tells us that children with Cerebral Palsy displayed better seat alignment and postural control of the upper body resulting in a more efficient reaching path in a saddle seat making it easier to reach desired item. In 2006, Stavness reviewed the literature on the effect of positioning for children with cerebral palsy and upper extremity function. Evidence supports that an upright position, versus sitting back in a chair, improves reaching and hand manipulation. Additionally, the optimal position is a cutout tray, a sloped seat forward of 0-15 degrees and that the line of gravity be in front of the “sit bones”, otherwise known as the ischial tuberosities.
